About Me
Even though Wayne's Wood Originals is a relatively new business, I have been creating wood products as gifts to my family for more than 10 years. In the beginning, the hope was to create heirloom quality pieces that could be passed on from one generation to the next. An example of that is the high chair seat that I made for my son and daughter-in-law's children. With hopes that one day the chair would be passed down to the next generation. Many of the items that I create are designed and illustrated in Photoshop. Especially the wood burning (pyrography) design or message to be permanently burned into the wood. I am now fulfilling some of those hopes by creating these kinds of quality wood products for others to enjoy and gift to their families. What better way to show a friend or a loved one how important they are, to have a quality, hand crafted wood product made special just for them and that no else has one exactly like it.
My background includes over 20 years as a Technical Writer, Photography and Illustrating. I have always enjoyed carpentry. Like most things, my interests in carpentry has evolved substantially. My interests in the beginning involved remodeling a house, building an addition or a deck. My ambitions now are geared more toward woodworking. Making unique items as gifts that anyone would proudly like to own or gift to a loved one, friend or business associate.
I enjoy hand selecting each piece of wood for whatever project I am working on in order to create that original look and feel of uniqueness and originality. A lot of items that I make have kind of a rustic look while maintaining a quality product.
Whenever I receive a custom order, I try to get a feel about the person (who the gift is for) or personality, likes or interests. This helps me get a feel about the font selection and design or graphic to be used when pyrography is to be included in the end product.
No two pieces of furniture, cutting board, cribbage board etc. are the same. Every piece of wood used is individually selected, planed, shaped and assembled by hand. Each handcrafted piece is sanded and finished in my workshop.
